Brief: Poster Designs for Darlinghurst Theatre's Play Series
Objective:
Design a cohesive series of 4 posters to promote upcoming plays at Darlinghurst Theatre. Each poster should uniquely reflect the theme and mood of its respective play while maintaining a consistent visual identity across the set, ensuring they are instantly recognisable as part of the same series.
Requirements:
Play Titles & Themes:
Each poster should creatively represent the individual play’s title and central theme.
Visually capture the essence of each play’s genre (e.g., drama, comedy, mystery) using appropriate imagery, colour schemes, and typography.
Target Audience:
Design with the theatre-going audience in mind, appealing to both frequent visitors and newcomers.
Solution
I crafted each poster to visually reflect the essence of each play. The photographs were carefully chosen and retouched to convey key emotions and moments, ensuring they captured the unique mood and story of each production.
By colour-correcting and enhancing the images, I created a cohesive look that brought out the drama and atmosphere essential to the plays.
To complement the imagery, I used bold typography to reflect the intensity of each production. The strong, impactful font choices not only grabbed attention but also added to the emotional weight of the posters. This combination of evocative photography and dynamic typography created a striking series that engages the audience and invites them to experience the plays.
